RESERVE THE DATE TO HAVE FUN SUNDAY MAY 27,2012

8 AM

When: Sunday May 27, 2012

Time: 8:00 AM

Thank you for those of you who rode in “The Lake Ride” last May 2011.

We had over 70 registrants/riders in our first event last year and plan to make this an annual event.

I hope you had as much fun as I did that day.

I would like to thank several of the people who made that day possible.

Sara Sterling, a professional athletic event organizer (sara@raceworks.ca) provided, completely gratis, valuable planning advice, helped us source the jackets and logo designer (Robyn Hader, robynhader@sympatico.ca) and provided valuable assistance by registering riders on event day. Thank you Sara.

Victor Tolgyssey made a beautiful map at a greatly discounted fee. Gears Bike Shop provided, gratis, 2 bike mechanics who patrolled the course and helped several riders with flat tires on the ride. BikeSports helped promote our event.

Gill Tibbo recruited and coordinated a group of over 10 volunteers for the day of the event, who all did a great job. Thank you Gill.

I especially want to thank Phil Allan for volunteering to provide assistance in planning, advice, enthusiasm.  Furthermore, Phil, along with his brothers and business partners Jeff Allan and Scott Allan of Apple Suites, provided a venue for the start and finish, and a Barbecue, gratis, afterwards- I for one was very appreciative of the beer and burger at the end of the 100 km ride! Jeff set up our web-site (www.thelakeride.com) and Scott provided the book-keeping/accounting for the monies raised and disbursed. Thanks Phil, Jeff and Scott.

Speaking of money, we raised almost $2000.00 that day, which we hope will kick-start funding for endoscopic ultrasound at Southlake, a technology that assists in the diagnosis and staging of gastrointestinal cancers, in order to optimize their treatment.

This year, Timberlane Athletic Club (TAC) on Vandorf Sideroad in Aurora will host our event. We hope to have 150 riders but will have to cap the numbers at that level. The route will be similar but ~ 4 km longer on account of starting at TAC. A ~ 65 km option will be available. Cost will be $100.00 for the ~ 105 km ride, $75.00 for the ~65 km option. An indoor rest stop with fluids/snacks/washrooms at ~ km 30 on the way out and ~ km 75 on the way back will be the turn-around point for the shorter ride and an outdoor lunch stop with fluids, sandwiches and washrooms on Lake Simcoe will also be set up. A barbecue and shower facilities awaits you at the end of your ride. We will again be donating monies raised (above expenses) to services to enhance the diagnosis, staging, treatment and support of people with cancer treated in our community.

We will be updating our web-site, www.thelakeride.com soon with further information on the ride.

If any of you can help, especially in providing volunteers for the day, or in helping secure corporate sponsorship, please get back to me.

and, most importantly, mark your calendars for this Sunday, May 27, 2012 and plan on joining us for a great, fun ride.
